Maybe you’ve heard the word before but weren’t exactly sure what it meant. Maybe you’ve seen the little bottles at the health food store but didn’t know who to ask about it. Maybe you’ve read about the danger of over the counter medications and were looking for a natural alternative and came across the word – homeopathy.
What is homeopathy?
Homeopathy is a form of nanomedicine (keep reading below for clarification on that). It works based on the concept of “like cures like”. It was developed in 1796 by Dr. Samuel Hannemen in Germany.
How is homeopathy different from botanical medicine?
While homeopathic remedies can be made from herbs that can also be used in botanical medicine, the biggest difference between them is their amount of the original element. For botanical medicine, the properties of the original plant (aka crude element) are extracted in alcohol (for a higher potency/strength), oil or water (for lower potency/strength). This can be achieved by steeping the crude element (the amount of time and exact method varies for each liquid). Once steeping is complete, the crude element is strained and only the product is left – that is a botanical remedy.
For homeopathic remedies, they are created through a series of dilutions. The original plant or crude element is typically extracted via water and then that water product goes through a series of dilutions. The product is diluted in a very specific process where only 1 drop of the product is used to be diluted into a new batch of water. It’s then shaken up (aka succussed) and then one drop of that solution is added to a different, new batch of water. This process is repeated many times and the original crude element is no longer detectable in that water. The end result is a remedy that is extremely dilute – that is a homeopathic remedy. (Did I lose you there? It’s ok, it’s a kind of backwards concept. Keep reading if you’d like clarification.)
Is homeopathy safe?
YES!
Homeopathic remedies are made from a crude element that has gone through serial dilutions past Avogadro’s number (6.022×1023). Once it’s diluted this much, there’s technically no detectable crude element anymore. Homeopathy focuses on the resonance from the crude element rather than the crude element itself.
Therefore, there is no possibility of overdose with homeopathic remedies – even if all of the pellets in the bottle are taken at once. Overall homeopathy is very safe; it’s even recommended to infants, children, pregnant and nursing women, and the elderly.
If homeopathy is so diluted and the original element is no longer detectable…how does it work?
Great question! So, as I mentioned above, homeopathy focuses on the resonance (aka vibrations) of the original crude element,, similar to how MRI machines use radio frequency of vibrations to help visualize tissues. All elements have a unique vibration as well. Likewise each person has a unique vibration and when we don’t feel well or something feels “off”, that’s distunement of your vibration. Everyone presents an illness differently so not everyone experiences all of the same symptoms in the same ways. Homeopathic remedies are prescribed based on your individual symptoms. Therefore appointments require an extensive look at symptoms and then after the appointment, a lot of time is spent researching remedies that are best suited for those symptoms. It’s not cut and dry, just like how not everyone who is diagnosed with “x” will experience all the same symptoms as someone else with the same diagnosis. Everyone’s experiences are unique, it only makes sense that their treatments are too.
